abstract = "Erosion caused by natural land cover removal is a problem that
many cities have been facing in thelast few years. This paper
compared different methods used to estimate soil loss caused by
erosion in an urbanarea, with emphasis on digital surface models
resolution impact on the resulting soil loss. The universal soil
lossequation (USLE) was applied on two different topographic data
sources: (a) elevation model based on 1:10.000traditional
topographic maps of the region; and (b) digital surface model
(DSM) generated by unmanned aerialvehicle (UAV). Additionally,
stakes were inserted into the ground, calculating soil loss by
observing changes inone year of monitoring. Results show that all
methods indicate substantial soil loss, but with a notable
differencebetween the two categories of topographic data used for
USLE application. UAV DSM resulted in significantlysmaller values
compared to traditional topographic maps. On the other hand, UAV
DSM soil loss estimates arerelatively farther to the stakes
method. Additionally, they suggest that it is possible to apply
the USLE (with theappropriate approach) even for very high
                         resolution elevation models.",
